Who Is This?

The Phone is ringing and I almost trip over a chair to answer it.  My cheery “hello” is a bit forced due to a stubbed toe and my hair is still wet from the shower.  My patience is wearing thin, when a voice on the phone responds with, “who is this?”  That’s it!  Click! The phone is off…hung up….

Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday to a crowd cheering, waving palm branches, and calling Hosanna!  It was an unusual Sunday in Jerusalem with such a great crowd of people in a joyful mood, ready to celebrate and calling to Jesus.

Did I say everyone?  Actually, not all were celebrating.  A few people asked, “Who is this?”

When they neared Jerusalem, having arrived at Bethphage on Mount Olives, Jesus sent two disciples with these instructions: “Go over to the village across from you. You’ll find a donkey tethered there, her colt with her. Untie her and bring them to me. If anyone asks what you’re doing, say, ‘The Master needs them!’ He will send them with you.”   This is the full story of what was sketched earlier by the prophet:

Tell Zion’s daughter,
“Look, your king’s on his way,
    poised and ready, mounted
On a donkey, on a colt,
    foal of a pack animal.”

The disciples went and did exactly what Jesus told them to do. They led the donkey and colt out, laid some of their clothes on them, and Jesus mounted. Nearly all the people in the crowd threw their garments down on the road, giving him a royal welcome. Others cut branches from the trees and threw them down as a welcome mat. Crowds went ahead and crowds followed, all of them calling out, “Hosanna to David’s son!” “Blessed is he who comes in God’s name!” “Hosanna in highest heaven!”

As he made his entrance into Jerusalem, the whole city was shaken. Unnerved, people were asking, “What’s going on here? Who is this?”  The parade crowd answered, “This is the prophet Jesus, the one from Nazareth in Galilee.”   Matthew 21:1-11, MSG

Don’t look now, but here comes Jesus!

WHO?

JESUS!  You know, The Prophet!  The one who has healed people!  He even raised a man and little girl from the dead!  Or so my cousin told me!

The talk in Jerusalem was only about Jesus; the prophet, healer, Son of God, and…..Who is this?

We’ve heard the story for…how many years?  Countless sermons and devotions have flowed over us, and we know the old, old story by heart.  But, do we really know the story?  Have we listened to the story?  Really listened?

I still ask, “Who is this?” when a deadly virus threatens my family and friends!

I ask, “Who is this?” when a heart attack almost takes my life!

I ask, “Who is this?” when a wreck on Interstate 75 takes the life of a Dad, Mom, and 4 small children!

I know the sacred story, my faith is secure in The Christ of Calvary, and I know that I am going to Heaven one day.

Is it enough?  Am I secure in an unsecure world?  Can I live in a virus ridden world?  Does Jesus make a difference in my life?  Am I willing to trust “Who is this” with my life?

Believe it or not, the Bible gives the answer for an unbelieving world and a skeptical mind.

It’s impossible to please God apart from faith. And why? Because anyone who wants to approach God must believe both that he exists and that he cares enough to respond to those who seek him. Hebrews 11:6 MSG

Who is This?

This is Jesus, God’s Son!  And yes, it’s hard!  It takes faith.

Jesus is coming.  Some are cheering, others are asking, “Who is This?”

What is your response?
