Word - Advent Day 11

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning. John 1:1-2 (NIV)

“Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start.”  With these words, a well-known governess taught musically illiterate children to sing…in a movie.  We smile at pleasant memories, recalling the patient and loving way that Maria implanted words and melody into receptive minds.

God, as The Word, formed our universe in Genesis 1:1.  He patiently and expertly formed our world by His Word or Logos, which is the Greek word for “something said” or “Divine expression.”

John used the same word in our scripture to make the case for Jesus, The divine Word and One with God in the Trinity.

As John introduced Jesus to his readers, it was important that Jesus was understood to be divine, part of the Trinity and The coming Messiah.  Previous writers prophesied the imminent coming of Jesus, born in Bethlehem to the virgin.  Born of miraculous circumstances, John desired his readers to know, beyond a shadow of doubt that Jesus was The Son of God.

Jesus is The Expression of God!

Word…God Promised!

Advent – God is coming to us.
