A Most Unusual Command

God, I'm ready! Please use me. Wherever you lead, I’ll follow.

(Later in the same day…)

God, are you sure? This sounds unusual. I'm not ready for this.

Commander Joshua and the Israelite army were ready. Jesus had appeared to Joshua as The Angel of The Lord, and promised victory.  The army was awaiting the battle plans for the final assault on the closed city of Jericho.

God spoke to Joshua again, and...

…………………………….are you sure?  God?

The is where it get’s interesting.  Are you ready for a surprise?

Let's read together.

Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men.  March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.” Joshua 6:2-5

Did you get that?  The battle plan was simply to march around the city of Jericho, once a day for six days.  On the seventh day, the Israelite army with all of the families were to march around the city seven times then shout in unison with the trumpets of the priests.  Sounds reasonable…right?

How would you respond?  Would you follow the plan?  Could you place your faith in such a…unique…battle plan?

Actually,  Joshua followed God's command and plans...to the letter.

Did Joshua question anything? NO!  Joshua and the Israelites were ready to follow God, and ready to move...wherever God led.

So what happened?

The Israelite army moved at God’s command, marched around the large city of Jericho for the prescribed number of times, and won an amazing victory.  The walls fell down when the people shouted, and trumpets sounded.  The walls fell down…flat!  These were not small walls.  Imagine walls almost 12 feet tall and 6 feet thick.  They were designed for protection and would not crumble easily.  Yet, they were no match for God’s battle plan.

How about you?  Are facing a giant wall?  Are you facing a giant?  Whatever it is, it’s large…too large, and you already feel small and perhaps defeated.  Get ready, there’s good news for you.  God has a plan…or a battle plan, just for you.  The enemy that you are facing is no match for The Living God!

God cares for you and is ready to stand beside you against your enemy.  Don’t despair!  God’s commands do not fail.  Even if it is……….

A Most Unusual Command!
